There was a suggestion from one of my friend to include information about smart phones. Here is something from my hands on experience over Android phones.
Downloading a song:
Go to market application, search for mp3 downloader on that. There is a freeware for that. Just install it when it appears on search. Once installed, the utility will be present in your applications. Press on the application. In the search tab give the album name or band name of your choice. You will get a list of songs. Press on that. It will take you to a page with lyrics to be fetched. There will a down arrow tab. Press on that, the song will start to download. After download you can find the song in the music folder (in gallery) with the album or band name.
Saving an image from web:
Just view the image Press on it for a long time. You will get an option 'save as' which helps to save on downloads folder.
Sharing an Item: Go to the Item (image or song).
Press on the menu button. You will get an option 'share as’. With that you can share to your Bluetooth device or email id. This type of sharing even helps you to transfer the needed item to other device like PC without using a port.
To be continued…..

Experiencing the portal testing on mobile!
I have a blog. Better to say I just have an account on blogger! Never got a nice topic to blog. So here's something out of my experience. Just one month back I got allocated to a testing project. My part was to test the portal on smartphones. But I was a person totally 'illiterate' of smart phones. So googling was my only hope to come out of my illiteracy.
Firstly I would like to say a word about portal. It's just a starting site which directs you to other sites. It contains many sections, called portlets.Moving on to smartphones. It's just like a PC on mobile. You can do everything what you do on your desktop/laptop. When you hear about mobile phones , there are some familiar words like symbian, android etc. What are all these??? Ignore this part if you are an expertise on smartphones. Both are two operating systems for mobile. Symbian was the initial one which you can find on Nokia N series and other small scale phones. Android is the most common OS which is used now on most of the Smartphones. It is an open source by Google.
Now, there will be some doubts. What will be tested on a portal??Basically the portal should load properly on any browser. The navigations also should be error free. The display and input should produce appropriate results. The look and feel as well as the positioning has to be consistent for all platforms, browsers and devices. When you consider the portal testing on a mobile the screen type also need to be considered. The screen type will be large or small. But the display has to be consistent. Moving on to the testing procedures. Firstly you have to analyse the requirements. Better to say you should know how the portal works including all navigations. Then comes the test case preparation. Each and every navigation or action (eg:typing url) consistutes a test case. There will be expected and actual result for each test case along with the status (pass/fail) . These test cases has to be documented on an excel sheet. The test case document is completed once you are done with these steps. Then starts the really testing. You have to verify each and every step of test case. If you find any fault that has to be raised as an issue or defect. These defects when resolved have to be retested. If the issue is resolved the defect can be closed. Else you got to reopen it again. There is another one major requirement. That's nothing but a screenshot. Screenshot acts an evidence for the issue as the developer won't know where exactly the issue occurrence. It's very easy to take a screenshot on a PC. But what will you do for mobile phones. If you press home and top button for latest iphones the screenshot is taken. But what about normal android phones??There is no option for that.Additionaly many freeware screenshot utilities require smartphones with rooting (file structure starting with root). So I couldn't find a proper screenshot utility for the Galaxy S upon which I have to perform my testing. Accidentally in market ( utlity to find and install software/utilty for android phones), I found dolphin screen cut. I installed that. It then asked for installing a new browser called dolphin. After installing screen cut was operating as an addon for the browser. Once the page is loaded take the screenshot by pressing the menu button and screen out addon. The image will be copied to the default download file. This was an exciting discovery (serendipity) of my testing experience. Previously I have tried many addons for screenshot like web shot and site shot . But they couldn't take the screenshot in the desired and appropriate manner. Once the issues are resolved the test report has to be produced. It's just an updated version of test case report with defects mentioned. The test cases will be executed again in case of defects. The restesting has to be mentioned in a new sheet as next cycle. Cycles repeats untill all defects are resolved. That's all for now. Thanks for spending your valuable time.
